How do I care for and wash my nappies? TOP
Care and washing instructions
- Pre-wash your nappies and inserts a few times with ½ strength detergent prior to first use to increase their absorbency. Snapz inserts will reach their maximum absorbency after they have been washed 8-10 times, but can be used after just a couple of washes if you simply can’t wait!
- Remove soiled/wet nappy from baby and fold back the tabs on the wings of the nappy, onto the laundry tabs, so they do not snag in the wash. Rinse solids down the toilet or into a bucket, flushing the contents, remove inserts from the cover and place both pieces into a dry nappy bucket with a lid, there is no need to soak your nappies.
- To wash, empty the nappies from the bucket into the washing machine, set the water level to high and do a pre wash ‘rinse’ cycle with no detergent (this will rinse away excess soiling and ensure your nappies don’t agitate in dirty water). Then, add detergent (half the amount recommended on the bottle/box), then set the machine to a heavy duty wash.
- Line drying is recommended as the UV naturally sanitises and fades stains. Although, the inserts may be tumble dried if you wish. Do not tumble dry the covers, they really don’t take very long to dry at all!
- Don’t use fabric softeners as this leaves a residue and decreases the absorbency of the fabric
- Don’t use bleach or other harsh stain removers as they will drastically shorten the life span of your nappies.
- When using barrier creams you must always use a liner as they coat the fibres in your nappy reducing their absorbency. Nenooh Baby has bio liners that are flushable, so you can simply flush the liner and its contents down the toilet!
My nappies are clean but they stink! TOP
From time to time you may notice your nappies have a serious case of the stinkys! This is caused by a build up of naturally occuring dirt and oils trapped in the fabric fibers.
The best way to get rid of the smell is to do a strip wash. Firstly, wash your nappies as normal, if they're already clean just add them to the machine. Remove covers from machine and add a good squirt of dishwashing liquid (eg. morning fresh) and hot wash. Then add covers back in, another squirt good of dish liquid and warm wash. Then follow it up by a couple of rinse cycles. Preferably hang outside to dry outside rather than inside.
